The G44 has the same external dimensions as the G19 but is a blowback pistol chambered in .22 LR. In order to have enough slide weight (within the G19's slide dimensions) for reliable operation of the rimfire recoil action, the pistol has a hybrid slide design: a steel slide core encased in a polymer outer sleeve. Yes, there have been reports of poor durability in these slides which we cannot confirm as we have not seen any issues with the slides after running through thousands of rounds while testing these guns at our range during shooting. . Nelson Precision Manufacturing has released a G44 machined aluminum slide called the 44X.
The Nelson Precision 44X slide is machined from 7075 billet aluminum and has a hard jacket finish. This slide shows the optical cutaway associated with the Trijicon RMR and SRO red dot sight. The sliding cover plate and the red dot cutout of the cover plate are also made of aluminum. The 44x slide ships unassembled, but is compatible with all OEM G44 slide parts. For optimal performance, the company recommends using high-quality, high-velocity LR bullets.
